NYSCBS Meeting Summary
March 8, 2009
Masonic Lodge, Deposit, NY
The meeting was started with thanking Dick Buffington of the Masonic Lodge and acknowledging Donna and Linda for the refreshments .This was followed by raffle and 50/50 drawings, the reading of the last meeting’s minutes and membership report.
The annual report will be given at the April dinner.Next was discussed the new program purchased and being used for our website by Bob Michielsen and the possibility of a blog associated with the site. Reid Bader filled us in about the Eugene Sulecki collection the Society purchased and some of the things that we might, and are doing with it.More information on the dinner in April and the Safari in Maine/NH was discussed and most of it is on the website and in the current Newsletter.
Updates from Trish Kane were given by Donna in reference to the Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Resource Center in Oxford, NY, a new parking area for the Hyde Hall Bridge and what repairs and improvements are being slated for the Beaverkill Covered Bridge.The Gift Membership program will continue for at least one more year and Jeanette Wilson had emailed Donna that Dick Wilson’s headstone was put in place on 11/21/2008.
The Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Society is celebrating 50 years this year and has special events planned, not the least of which is the Anniversary Dinner on 5/2/2009 at Shady Maple Smorgasbord in East Earl, PA. If you want to attend please let Michael Chorazy know by 4/1/2009 at 610-447-1499. Also Buck’s County Breakfast on the Bridge at the South Perkasie CB will be on 5/9/2009 starting at 9 a.m. We also got information from James Crouse on the article in Country Magazine on the Moscow CB, from Jersey Joe on the Scarborough CB in Cherry Hill, NJ and a copy of an article about the repairs to the Bumps Intervale CB in Campton, NH by 2 companies represented by Stan Graton and Robert Durfee. A documentary on Virginia’s Covered Bridges has been completed.
We have suffered the loss of several members and relatives of members including Dorothy Haffly, Tom Walczak’s mother Loretta, Ann Sottery and Hank Messsing’s aunt.
As usual we all enjoyed seeing our covered bridge friends after a long winter and look forward to seeing more of our friends during the year.
